Application Year 2009-2010 Results
Eight students of the seventeen students who took part in the USA/USA Program in the application year of 2009-2010 have won scholarships totaling nearly 1.07 million dollars.
Three students won full year college scholarships including room and board to Duke, DePauw, and Washington and Lee in the USA.
Five students have won scholarships for two years to top college preparatory schools in four countries: Red Cross United World College (NO), Leysin American (CH), Pearson College (BC), and Choate (CT) and Emma Willard (NY) in the USA. All these schools prepare students for English language higher education.
The number of students earning scholarships this year gives us our second best annual number ever. This is the by far the best year since 2006-2007 when we had an all-time high of nine scholarship students. Given that our results this year come at a time of financial aid cutbacks in colleges, we were successful because we have been more selective in recent years and our students had better preparation and advocacy. Because of continuous tuition inflation, the scholarship award amounts are more difficult to compare from year to year.
Four of the five students this year are going to prep schools which have previously taken at least one of our students. Two of the three colleges are taking our first student.
Since we do not award these scholarships, our students have to be competitive on a truly international level.
We are taking a well earned sabbatical while helping our remaining students from the 2008 and 2009 seminar years. We are planning to apply for a capacity building grant.
This process should take place during the 2010-2011 academic year. We welcome inquiries and offers of support as well as financial contributions since we are a 501(c)3 organization.
